Visiting Nurse Services
Advancements in medical technologies and procedures are
decreasing the time spent in the hospital recovering from
illness and injury. With the emphasis on recuperating at home,
the need to provide comprehensive, competent home care is
vital.
Visiting Nurse Services has been providing quality home
care services to a seven county service area since 1956. With
offices in Battle Creek and Coldwater, Visiting Nurse Services
provides Skilled Nursing Care; Home Health Care, including
pediatric care; IV therapy; Wound Care; Physical, Occupational
and Speech Therapy; Medical Social Work and Nutritional Counseling
to patients in Calhoun, Branch, and Hillsdale Counties, and
portions of St. Joseph, Barry, Eaton and Jackson Counties.
With its broad range of home care services, Visiting Nurse
Services is an important link in the continuum of care offered
by Lifespan. Through the total integration of home care with
a patient's discharge from the hospital, including medical
records and treatment history, Lifespan will provide quality
care without hassle or delay.

Good Samaritan Hospice Care
Good Samaritan Hospice Care (GSHC) is certified by Medicare/Medicaid
as a program for patients facing an advanced life-limiting
diagnoses, and their families. Since 1981, GSHC has been providing
hospice services to residents of Calhoun County. Service was
expanded to Barry County in 1990 when Barry Community Hospice
became a division of GSHC.
Established in 1988, as a result of the merger of Community
and Leila Hospitals, Battle Creek Health System was founded
on the principle of providing a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary
system of care. Long before national trends illustrated the
need for collaboration among service providers, the importance
of providing care to the economically disadvantaged, and the
opportunity to focus community resources, Battle Creek Health
System was applying those principles in Battle Creek, Calhoun
County and surrounding areas.
Today, Battle Creek Health System provides acute medical
care on an in-patient and out-patient basis; long-term care;
a wide range of in-patient and out-patient psychological services;
and has created or supported more than 80 community initiatives
that improve the health status of its community. The advent
of Lifespan further strengthens the system of service and
care that has always been the promise of Battle Creek Health
System.
