Cardiac Care Services
Our Diagnostic Services
To determine the extent and cause of heart disease, Cardiac Health Services provides complete diagnostic services for
both inpatients and outpatients. These tests may be ordered
by your own physician. Only those tests determined to be necessary
by your physician will be given.
Location and Equipment
Cardiac Health Services is located at Battle Creek Health
System, Leila Site, and is open Monday through Friday 5:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can contact us at 269 966-8199.
The Center's exercise area allows for patient teaching and
individual work space, including the use of such equipment
as stationary bikes, stairmasters, rowers, treadmills, cross-country
tracks and wall pulleys. The exercise area also contains two
showers for the convenience of those returning to work after
an exercise session.
Additional areas of the center include a consultation room,
patient interview room, two stress testing rooms and an ECHO
room.
Insurance and Payment
Insurance benefits vary, but most will cover Phase One and
Two. Medicare and commercial insurances normally cover at
lease 80 percent of any diagnostic tests. However, it is to
your benefit to check with your individual carrier.
Phase Three is not covered by insurance.
If you have any questions about your coverage, contact either
your carrier, or someone from Cardiac Health Services will be
happy to talk with you.
Caring for your heart close to home
As with all medical care provided at Battle Creek Health
System, the goal is to restore patients to as normal a life
as possible. This is especially true at Cardiac Health Services,
where with the latest in diagnostic capabilities and the promotion
of lifestyle modification that can reduce your heart risk
factors, we can help you.
At Cardiac Health Services we help you learn how to do this,
how to enjoy it, and how to be comfortable with this new-found
commitment to your well being and good health.
Coronary Arteriography (Heart Catheterization)
If initial diagnostic results are positive, your physician
may order a coronary arteriography. This procedure is performed
by the cardiologist in the Cardiac Health Services Catheterization
Laboratory (cath lab). Considered an "invasive" procedure,
heart catheterization requires a thin performed flexible plastic
tube called a catheter to be inserted into an artery in the
arm or groin area. Once the catheter is in place, a small
amount of dye is injected so the physician can view the condition
of your arteries and your left ventricle.
This test is used to detect any visible heart disease, valve
function or the exact location of heart damage.
Surgical Intervention
If more invasive procedures such as balloon dilation, also
known as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA),
or bypass surgery is needed, patients will be referred to
a regional health care center.
