Youth ChalleNGe learn at BCHS and other community sites

More than two-dozen members of the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy (MYCA) culinary program left their classroom and visited food service sites to learn first-hand what it would be like to work in a professional kitchen. The students visited dietary departments at Battle Creek Health System, Northpointe Woods, and the Old Tyme Bakery.
Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy is a voluntary, no-cost, quasi-military 22-week residential program geared toward Michigan's at-risk youth, ages 16-19, who have dropped out of school or are at risk of dropping out. The program provides purpose and direction for the future of Michigan's youth through education and structure.
Seventy percent of the graduating corps members were awarded General Educational Development (GED) credentials. The GED success rate is nearly double the average reported pass rate of 41% for the same target age group.
