Diabetes and Foot Health Workshop
When we aren't informed about a medical condition that
we, or a loved one has, we can't make good decisions
about how to treat it. Diabetes and chronic wounds (wounds
that have not healed in six weeks or more) are frequently
experienced together. We have help for you - 'Diabetes
and Foot Health Workshop.'
On Friday, November 20 at Burnham Brook the Battle Creek
Health System Diabetes Center and the Wound Healing Center
are co-sponsoring an information-packed workshop for
those who want to know more about diabetes and its affect
on wounds that will not heal. Dr. Clark Johnson, board
certified podiatrist and Dr. Tarek El Shaarawy, board
certified vascular surgeon at Battle Creek Health System
and member of Mercy Community Physicians will talk about
the importance of foot care, particularly for those suffering
from diabetes. The program, which is free to the public,
is sponsored through Senior Health Partners in coordination
with Battle Creek Health System.
The workshop will begin at 11 a.m. with exhibits from
the Diabetes Center, the Wound Healing Center, Neurodiagnostics,
and Lifespan. Clinicians will be available to explain
how they can help patients. Lifespan will have computerized
foot mapping (Aetrex) available to analyze foot pressure
points and offer recommendations for help.
A free lunch will be served at 11:30 along with a 'special
presentation' by registered dietician with the BCHS Diabetes
Center who will share the 'good and the bad' in food
and why a balanced diet is so important to good health.
At noon Drs. El Shaarawy and Johnson will present on
their areas of specialty and provide ample opportunity
for questions.
The workshop will end with door prize drawings and an
additional opportunity to visit the exhibits and talk
with the clinicians.
Reservations must be made for this event by calling
the class/seminar registration line at (877) GO2-BCHS
(877-462-2247).
