BCHS to honor local physicians
March 30th marks the annual observance of National Doctors' Day in the United States. The day is celebrated to honor the medical profession as an opportunity to raise public awareness about the active roles physicians' play in their community.
Physicians of all specialties are annually recognized on March 30th because of the efforts of an anesthesiologist. On March 30, 1842, Dr. Crawford W. Long of Jefferson, Georgia, administered the first ether anesthetic for surgery. This history-making achievement, first celebrated in the U.S. on that day in 1933, and the continuous efforts by physicians to alleviate human suffering has become the basis for National Doctors' Day.
"What better time to recognize the many skills that the 225 members of the BCHS medical staff bring to greater Battle Creek than to celebrate this event," says Patrick Garrett, president and CEO of Battle Creek Health System. "Our community is indeed fortunate for the outstanding care that is delivered by our dedicated local physicians and supported by our team of associates and volunteers. We appreciate the commitment, skill, and service that our physicians provide our patients every day of the year."
In honor of Doctors' Day, Battle Creek Health System will hold several events to recognize and thank the medical staff for its significant contribution to supporting the health care needs of the community. BCHS encourages others to take a moment and acknowledge your primary care physician and the many others who volunteer their medical services to meet the needs of greater Battle Creek.
