HBC hits a homerun for ACS and BCHS
HBC, a general and environmental contracting company
based in Lansing has gone to bat for the American Cancer
Society (ACS) and Battle Creek Health System's (BCHS)
Cancer Care Center in a unique way. Every time a Battle
Creek Yankee hits a homerun at C.O. Brown Stadium this
season, HBC donates $100 to be split between BCHS and
ACS.

HBC owner Mike Beck wanted
to do something special to help those suffering
from cancer so he partnered with the Battle Creek
Yankees and is donating $100 for every homerun
a Yankee hits in C.O. Brown Stadium this season.

for the American Cancer Society (ACS); and Gerrie
Baarson, director of outpatient and ancillary
services at Battle Creek Health System (BCHS).
ACS and BCHS each received a check for $1,300
representing the 26 homeruns that have been hit
so far this year. |
A long-time supporter of the cancer society's activities,
HBC decided to do something extra to help.
"This year in addition to our normal Relay for
Life sponsorship, we wanted to add a little 'pizzazz'
to the fight against cancer," said Michael Beck,
Battle Creek resident and owner of HBC. "We decided
to partner with the Yankees and sponsor the 'Clear the
Fence for Cancer' promotion. It recognizes the efforts
of the Yankee players who hit homeruns and it helps
two groups who are instrumental in helping those facing
cancer. It is the least we can do."
The first half of the season produced 26 home field
BC Yankee homeruns. At the end of the season, HBC will
again present checks to both organizations for the balance
of homeruns hit, and recognize the Yankees who hit them.
BCHS, among Michigan's finest cancer treatment centers,
is the only hospital in Southwest Michigan to be recognized

awarded and held by fewer than 10% of hospitals nationwide.
Battle Creek Health System is accredited by the Joint
Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
and has earned the Joint Commission's 'Gold Seal of
Approval.' BCHS provides excellent health care for the
community and promotes wellness for the whole person
