HBC hits a third homerun for ACS and
BCHS

HBC owner
Mike Beck wanted to do something special to help
those suffering from cancer so he partnered with
the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays for a third
year in a row and is donating $100 for every
homerun a Devil Ray hits in C.O. Brown Stadium
this season. Pictured at the check presentation

Center at Battle Creek Health System; Martie
Cordaro, Devil Ray general manager; Beck and
his son Brenner and daughter Avery; and Brian
Beaver, also of HBC accepting for the American
Cancer Society (ACS). ACS and BCHS each received
a check for $2,500 representing 50 homeruns by
the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays in 2005. |
Hazar-Bestos Corporation (HBC), a general and environmental
contracting company based in Lansing has again gone
to bat for the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Battle
Creek Health System's (BCHS) Cancer Care Center in
a very unique way. Every time a Southwest Michigan
Devil Ray hits a homerun at C.O. Brown Stadium this
season, HBC donates $100 to be split between ACS and
BCHS.
A long-time supporter of cancer programs, HBC decided
to do something extra to help. "In addition to
our Relay for Life sponsorship, we wanted to add a
little 'pizzazz' to the fight against cancer," said
Michael Beck, Battle Creek resident and owner of HBC. "Because
of the success of that program, we decided to partner
with the Devil Rays for the third year in a row and
sponsor the 'Clear the Fence for Cancer' promotion.
It not only recognizes the efforts of the Devil Rays
players who hit homeruns, but it also helps two local
organizations who are instrumental in helping those
facing cancer."
BCHS, among Michigan's finest cancer treatment centers,
is the only hospital in Southwest Michigan to be recognized
by the prestigious Commission on Cancer of the American
College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive
Cancer Program. This three-year approval is the highest
awarded and held by fewer than 10% of hospitals nationwide.
Battle Creek Health System is accredited by the Joint
Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
and has earned the Joint Commission’s ‘Gold
Seal of Approval.’ Battle Creek Health System
is the recipient of the ‘2005 HealthGrades Distinguished
Hospital Award for Patient SafetyTM.’ HealthGrades,
a leading health care information company that provides
objective ‘report card’ ratings nationwide,
has also named BCHS a five-star performer in orthopaedic
services. BCHS provides excellent health care for the
community and promotes wellness for the whole person
with access and compassion for all. For the latest
medical information, visit the BCHS web site at www.bchealth.com or call the BCHS Marketing Department at (269) 966-8132.
