Dr. Girardot receives health care leadership award
Dr. John G. Girardot is the 2007 recipient of the Dale G. Griffin Healthcare Leadership Award. The award, which recognizes exemplary contributions that improve the quality and accessibility of health care in greater Battle Creek, is presented annually at the Sherwood B. Winslow, M.D. Distinguished Lectureship program.
"Dr. Girardot is one of the most recognized physicians around," says Pat Garrett, president and CEO of Battle Creek Health System. "He has served our community for half a century. Children of the children of parents and grandparents have entrusted their family's health care to his skilled hands for 50 years for which we are all appreciative."
In making the presentation, Drs. John J.H. Schwarz and Charles Seifert said that when they think of a physician role model who has devoted his entire life to this community and the betterment of his patients, they think of John Girardot.
Dr. Girardot received his medical degree from Creighton School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his residency training in general surgery at Leila Y. Post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek through the University of Michigan. He has been a practicing surgeon on the medical staff at Battle Creek Health System since 1956, and was the first chief of staff when Battle Creek Health System was created through the merger of Leila and Community Hospitals.
The Griffin Award is named in honor of longtime community leader and volunteer Dale G. Griffin who died following a battle with cancer in 2001.
Dr. Girardot is the seventh recipient of the Griffin Award. Past winners are Chris Christ (2001); Charles Seifert, M.D. (2002); John J.H. Schwarz M.D. (2003); Jack Mawdsley, Ed.D. (2004); Joseph M. Stewart (2005); and Rick Tsoumas (2006).
