First 2004 Baby Born in Calhoun County at Battle Creek Health
System
Ezekiel
Raymond Flynn came into the world at 8:53 a.m. on January 1, 2004 at the Battle
Creek Health System Family Birth Center making him the first baby born in Calhoun
County in 2004.
Zeke, the son of Summer and Troy Flynn, was 6 pounds, 2 ounces at birth and
19 inches long.
The Battle Creek Health System Family Birth Center, which opened in 1999, is
Calhoun County's leading birthing facility. About 1,400 babies are born in the
center's 11 birthing and 4 postpartum suites annually. Each suite is decorated
to feel like home while at the same time the most up-to-date technology and equipment
to assist in the birth process is at the care giver's fingertips. Mom remains
in the same comfortable room throughout the birthing process: labor, delivery,
recovery, and postpartum. To ensure mom's complete comfort and relaxation, each
suite has a whirlpool bath, a wood entertainment center, and is decorated in a
restful color scheme.
Safe and secure newborns are a top priority in the Family Birth Center, which
is why Battle Creek Health System is one of just a small number of hospitals in
the entire state of Michigan to have the Code Alert security system. Infants are
fitted with wristbands that emit electronic signals ensuring that they are only
moved with proper authorization.
Battle Creek Health System is a multi-campus healthcare provider serving about
200,000 people in south central Michigan. BCHS services include an award-winning
172 bed acute care hospital, a nationally-recognized Cancer Care Center, new Outpatient
Surgery and Diagnostic Center, Fieldstone Center (Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Health), Lifespan (hospice, visiting nurse service, and durable medical
equipment), two occupational health clinics, HelpNet (a growing employee assistance
program), and a mobile health clinic. Battle Creek Health System is also an active
community partner in dozens of health related initiatives.
