Giving Thanks Away From Home

While most of us are enjoying time with our families eating turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, and watching a little football on Thanksgiving, there are a few who are unable to be home for the holiday. Hospital patients and those who take care of them every day, including holidays, will receive a special holiday meal from Battle Creek Health System’s dietary department.

Every year, patients and their families are treated to Thanksgiving dinners with all of the trimmings at BCHS. More than 300 pounds of turkey will be prepared, 12-dozen pumpkin pies, and 8-dozen assorted pies are on the menu.

“We understand how important family is, so for those unable to be home on Thanksgiving, we try to bring a little of ‘home’ to them from our family here at the hospital,” says John Fear, general manager of food and nutrition services at BCHS. “Not just the patients, but also the associates and doctors who work this holiday away from their families are included in the feast. We appreciate all of the staff-- the nurses, physicians, and other health care associates who give up time at home to be here to help others 365 days a year. We are thankful for their dedication.”

Battle Creek Health System, sponsored by two parent organizations--Trinity Health (the fourth largest Catholic health system in the U.S. with 12 hospitals, 9 nursing homes, 19 senior house facilities, 8 home health care agencies, and 4 hospices in Michigan alone) and BCHS Community Partners, is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
