Stylish check presented to BCHS
Five chapters of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held a charity brunch and style show recently at the First Congregational Church and raised more than $1,700 for The Cancer Care Center at Battle Creek Health System.
Based upon the sorority's request, the monies will go toward the hospital's Cancer Care Medication Fund, which provides assistance for uninsured and underinsured cancer patients requiring pharmaceuticals.
"Often times, part of a cancer treatment involves taking a regimen of drugs, which can be expensive," says Jayme Carrico, director of oncology services at BCHS. "Thanks to generous contributions like this one, we are able to help those who have difficulty with purchasing these lifesaving medicines."
Judi Yost, co-chair of the sorority fundraiser, right, presented the sorority's check to Carrico. Absent from the photo was Marlene Pape, the other co-chair of the event.
