Two BCHS nurses selected to attend state leadership conference

Amy Babcock, BSN, RN in the critical care unit and Christy Torres, RN, in the GYN medical pediatrics area at Battle Creek Health System were selected to attend the 2007 Institute of Nursing Excellence leadership conference earlier this month. The institute, sponsored by the Michigan Center for Nursing and the Michigan Organization for Nurse Executives, is designed to reward and develop nursing leaders.

"We are extremely pleased that these two nurses were chosen to represent our health system at this annual meeting," says Ann Pelissier Neeld, RN, MSN, MBA, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Battle Creek Health System. "They are two of only 30 exemplary nurses in the state to be so honored. BCHS was certainly well represented."

To be considered for this opportunity, nurses must spend at least half of their time at the bedside consistently demonstrate caring service, clinical excellence, strong professional values, a love for nursing, community outreach, and strong leadership potential. The nominations included letters of support from their direct care supervisors, a nursing peer, a non-nurse colleague, or team member.

Battle Creek Health System, sponsored by two parent organizations--Trinity Health (the fourth largest Catholic health system in the U.S. with 12 hospitals, 9 nursing homes, 19 senior house facilities, 8 home health care agencies, and 4 hospices in Michigan alone) and BCHS Community Partners, is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. BCHS is a two-time recipient of the 'Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety TM from HealthGrades, a leading health care information company that provides objective 'report card' ratings nationwide. BCHS provides excellent health care for the community and promotes wellness for the whole person with access and compassion for all.
