BCHS Nurse Receives Perinatal Award

Nicole Roy, a registered nurse in Battle Creek Health System's Family Birth Center special care nursery is a 2008 recipient of the Perinatal Excellence Award. The recognition, given by the Southwest Michigan Perinatal Association, recognizes nurses who exhibit excellence in clinical nursing.
Roy's award singles out her leadership in developing the Calhoun Area Referral Evaluation Program started from a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. She is an instructor for neonatal resuscitation, a preceptor in the special care nursery, and serves on the Family Birth Center leadership operations committee. She is S.T.A.B.L.E certified, an education program that focuses on post-resuscitation and pre-transport stabilization. S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for assessment parameters taught to stabilize sick newborns: sugar, temperature, airway, blood pressure, lab work, and emotional support. She has worked at BCHS since 1995.
