Leap Year Baby Born at BCHS
Joshua Neal hopped into this world at Battle Creek Health System's Family Birth Center on February 29, the first Leap Year baby born in Southwest Michigan in 2008. He was born at 12:14 p.m. weighing 7 lbs, 15 oz. and measuring 20 inches long.
He is the son of Stacy and Matthew Neal.
The BCHS Family Birth Center, which opened in 1999, is Calhoun County's leading birthing facility. About 1,200 babies are born in the center's 11 birthing and 4 postpartum suites annually. Each suite is decorated to feel like home while at the same time the most up-to-date technology and equipment to assist in the birth process is at the caregiver's fingertips. Mom remains in the same comfortable room throughout the birthing process: labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. To ensure mom's complete comfort and relaxation, each suite has a whirlpool bath, a wood entertainment center, and is decorated in a restful color scheme.

Battle Creek Health System is one of just a small number of hospitals in the entire state of Michigan to have the 'code alert' security system. Infants are fitted with wristbands that emit electronic signals ensuring that they are only moved with proper authorization.
BCHS and Growing Family's WebNursery(r), the nation's leading in-hospital photographer of newborns, also offer new parents the advantages of the Internet to share their exciting news with the world. This free service gives new moms the opportunity to safely post photos of their new arrivals. Family and friends, whether they are in Battle Creek or in some far off place in the world, can share in the joy of a new baby by visiting www.bchealth.com and clicking on the 'Web Nursery' icon. Parents can even personalize their baby's first Web page by customizing the background and adding their own welcome message.
For privacy, in compliance of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) government guidelines that govern privacy standards for health care information, each site contains only the baby's first name, last initial, and standard birth announcement information. The photos, posted approximately 72 hours after the birth, rotate off the site after 90 days.
