BCHS helps Charitable Union and CityLinC 'stuff-a-bus'

Battle Creek Health System is known for the great care it provides its patients, but now it adds another dimension to its community reputation. BCHS associates when they heard there was a need to help gather school supplies for local youngsters decided that collecting back packs for the program might be 'just what the doctor ordered.'

Under the coordination of Patti Ernst, a manager in patient care services, hospital departments challenged one another to see who could gather the most supplies and fill the most pack backpacks for the project. BCHS delivered 328 backpacks to Charitable Union for distribution; The Cancer Care Center won by assembling 73 of those packs.

CityLinC and the Charitable Union announced their partnership for the annual summer 'Stuff-A-Bus' campaign earlier this summer. The purpose of the campaign is to raise resources to purchase educational supplies for children in need when they attend school in the fall.

"When the community works together to gather school supplies, we are sending a message that kids matter, education is important, and we support our schools and families," says Dick Fink, executive director of Charitable Union. "We certainly appreciate all of the help our local hospital provides to our community."

Area businesses, organizations, and churches are participating in this community-wide campaign. Individuals wishing to volunteer stuffing the backpacks with school supplies should contact CityLinC, 70 Calhoun Street, Battle Creek, MI 49017, call 969-9181, or email info@citylinc.org.

As a thank you to Battle Creek, CityLinC will host a 'Back-2-School Bash' at Bailey Park on Saturday, August 23, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event is an opportunity for the entire community to come together to celebrate the importance of education and the spirit of generosity that prompts us to reach out to others in need.
