BCHS - A Model Partnership

Battle Creek Health System is a uniquely successful example of the effective utilization of a community's resources. In 1988, the former Leila and Community hospitals in Battle Creek forged a visionary partnership. The hospitals merged to create Battle Creek Health System. Both organizations committed to build a comprehensive health care system to service the entire community and region. "We are not interested in competition with existing providers of health care related services," said Inaugural Board Chair Chris Christ, "but rather in participating with the community to form partnerships to better deliver care to area residents."

Today, Battle Creek Health System is a celebrated example of an emerging community based health care system. And we know the most essential element of our success is our employees.

In the challenging and competitive times facing the health care community, planning for the future takes on increased importance. Battle Creek Health System began planning for the future with the 1988 joint venture. Since that time, we have developed programs and services which meet the needs both of our community and of our organization. We have established a respected Cancer Care Center, formed a comprehensive Heart Care Center, and increased the number of excellent new physicians joining our community and our hospital. Additionally, we have forged new partnerships with several community organizations to care for children and adults, we have introduced a Service Excellence program System wide, and we have continued to invest in innovative technologies to benefit our patients and attract the most professional staff available. Most important to our future, we have managed to maintain a healthy bottom line, ensuring our continued success and viability.
